The game ALKERK is part of a series of reconstructions of historical games, handmade from natural materials in the DABRAVA studio. The game board is made of leather suede, with glass marbles. The game folds and ties into a lightweight bag, convenient for storage, carrying and playing anywhere.
The ornaments of a Phoenician ship and Mediterranean fish are a reference to the game’s distant overseas origins.
The game develops strategic thinking, patience and concentration. ALKERK was used in training future warriors to show no leniency in battle or retreat.

Origin of the game
ALKERK is a strategic game used to develop combat skills, known in Egypt around 1000 BC. It probably reached Bulgaria through Byzantium in the 8th century AD, during the war with the Arabs, in which the Bulgarian Khan Tervel and his army also participated. Proof of this is its discovery carved on a limestone block on the eastern fortress wall of Pliska. In Slavic countries, the modern “Game of Checkers” is closest to the ancient game.
